Aaron Brame is a professional teaching artist who offers various courses on literature, writing, and pop culture. In his classes, such as Twilight Zone Studies or American Gothic Fiction, students engage with high-level texts and participate in thought-provoking discussions and activities. An accomplished poet, he also facilitates poetry workshops that encourage even the most reluctant writers. The goal of Brame’s instruction is to make learning meaningful. In addition to teaching, he is highly versed in Common Core ELA standards for grades 5-12 and has experience creating aligned test items.

Program Description:
In this course, students will examine the cultural and literary significance of Rod Serling’s groundbreaking anthology television series, The Twilight Zone, through some of its most affecting episodes.
We will view a classic episode from the series and discuss themes, conflicts, and historical context. We will also read relevant texts to complement the episodes and to enrich our class discussions and activities.
(If requested, Creeped Out episodes can replace Twilight Zone.)

Program Description:
This literature class pairs well-loved works of classic fiction from the American literary canon with newer works from the next generation of classic literature. In this class, we will see how certain themes in our stories and struggles from the past continue in the dynamic discourse of authors today. Students will read before class and engage in close reads during class in order to allow lively discussions, debates, and thinking routines.

This poetry workshop encourages students to write in a new way. The instructor will provide prompts to generate ideas and words so that no one faces the blank page alone. This workshop also creates surprise and engenders a feeling of poetic exploration. Finally, we will learn the process of revision, and collect an anthology of completed work
