Yvonne has a background in teaching visual art in the public schools as a certified and licensed art teacher for over 16 years. She taught middle school for 5 years , elementary art for 16 years, and high school for one year. She developed and taught a curriculum to make art meaningful and personal to students with an emphasis on personal expression.
In April 2020, together with her husband Tim, she opened Creative Spark Studio in Maryville as a community art center whose focus is a creative DIY arts and crafts venue for all people, all creative abilities, and all socioeconomic statuses. She currently teaches all ages on multiple mediums including acrylic painting, watercolor painting, printmaking, textiles, and sculpture classes, as well as summer camps and sip and paint classes.

A painting by Yvonne Smith at Creative Spark Studio shows a brown house with a red roof in a bright green field of wildflowers, set against rolling green and blue mountains under a partly cloudy sky. Two small, handmade black bear figurines made of felt stand on a wooden table at Creative Spark Studio—a brightly lit room with yellow walls, blue chairs, and colorful decorations designed by Yvonne Smith. A watercolor painting by Yvonne Smith shows a bee collecting nectar from a pink flower with a yellow center, set against a light blue sky and framed with a reddish-brown mat—an enchanting piece from Creative Spark Studio.

Program Title: Classes

Program Type:

Program Description:

As an individual, I can offer small group, class size, art lessons on drawing, painting, printmaking, textiles, and mixed-media collage. As a studio, we can offer a space for customers to come to us, with a comfortable seating of 24 but max seating 32. We offer mediums like pottery painting, canvas-wood-vinyl acrylic painting projects, fused-glass and more which really depends on size of group. Additionally we can offer projects (which we have offered for scouting groups and church groups) like paper bead making and jewelry making, paper quilling, papermaking, book making and book binding, candle making, soap making, embroidery, needle-felting, macrame, and possibly even blacksmithing or clay hand-building. It would be amazing to be able to offer an art day for people on the community that couldn’t otherwise afford to come make art with us.
