Led by Dr. Brady Spitz, the UTM Percussion studio is dedicated to community engagement through music. They provide regular educational clinics and concert opportunities to the community, including the “Roots of Rhythm” presentations, reaching over 6,000 students and community members annually.
The UTM Percussion Ensemble has performed internationally at the Universidade Federal (UFBA) in Salvador de Bahia, Brazil, the Universidade Federal (UFPE) and Conservatório Pernambucano de Música in Recife, Brazil, the PercuSonidos International Percussion Festival in Tampico, Mexico, and the Dagara Music Center in Ghana, Africa. The group has also performed at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention as winners of the 2016 World Percussion Competition and regionally, with annual performances at the Discovery Park of America and frequent appearances at the Tennessee Music Educators Conference and Tennessee Day of Percussion.

Program Description:
The UT Martin Percussion Society invites you to visit our campus and view the Roots of Rhythm program as well as take a tour of the University, eat in our dining hall, and set up an optional music education activity with our Director of Music Education. We offer Roots shows on campus in the middle of December and the end of April. These shows are eligible for the TN Arts Commission Grant as well. Please inquire to schedule a show!

Program Description:
The Roots of Rhythm tours once per year during the end of September with a goal of bringing our dynamic program to underserved communities. We enjoy presenting to the largest audience possible, including entire schools and even entire counties so lets plan ahead to make this an event to remember! This engaging program has high interest and we have a limited number of tour spots so please inquire early.
