Soprano Tanisha Ward is a native of Memphis, Tennessee. She is a former Artist-in-Residence with Opera Memphis and the winner of an Emerging Artist Grant from Arts Memphis. She holds the Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Memphis and the Master of Music degree from the University of Mississippi; both degrees are in Vocal Performance. She has been heard in various venues around Memphis, national, and international.
When Ms. Ward is not performing, she runs her nonprofit Classical Melodies, Inc. It is a performance-based organization focusing on introducing Classical vocal repertoire to underserved/ under represented communities.

Program Type: Arts Integration, Arts Appreciation
Program Description:
• Share the art through song with a live performance (piano and voice) of vocal classical repertoire. The repertoire will consist of arias, art songs and spirituals. The repertoire performed will be sung in Italian, German, French and English. The performance will last approximately 1 hour.
• During the performance, incorporate historical facts about the composer, poet (if applicable), country, etc.
• Share benefits of being a classical singer (i.e. discipline, language, etc.).
• Share the names and a little history about famous opera singers.

Program Description:
African-American music gained recognition and began appearing in classical music art forms around the late 19th century, due to the ingenuity of black composers and their arrangements of Negro spirituals. Said composers were Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Henry Thacker Burleigh and J. Rosamond Johnson just to name a few.
