Award-winning author Michael Shoulders spent his childhood traveling in an army family from MD, to KY, AR, Germany, and TN. He earned his doctoral degree before retiring with 30 years service for CMCSS in Clarksville. Mike visits nearly 80 schools and conferences across America and Europe each year spreading the message that “Reading IS Magic!” His program includes the entire writing process from ideas to publication. Selected titles include V is for Volunteer-A Tennessee Alphabet, T is for Titanic-A Titanic Alphabet, The Legend of the Christmas Pickle, and Crossing the Deadline (a Civil War novel).

Program Title: Reading is Magic

Program Type: Arts Appreciation

Program Description:

Reading is Magic – a behind-the-curtains look at what “real authors do,” from ideas to publishing using an interactive presentation that weaves in magic, rap, and props. I present examples of my five-step writing method focusing on research and revision. 45-50 minutes for 3rd grade and below; 60 minutes for grade
4 and up Q & A.

Program Title: Let's Write an ABC Book

Program Type: Arts Appreciation

Program Description:

Let’s Write an ABC Book! – Limited to one or two classrooms together, and using the school as a topic, I demonstrate how I research and write a four-line nonfiction alphabet page. Collectively, students decide
on other topics that might be in the rest of the book. In teams of 3-5, students write a poem on a topic. At the end of the session, I rap sing their poems.
