About
Since 2011, Joe Thordarson has been using the genres of Super Heroes and Science Fiction, as a vehicle to teach students classical storytelling lessons in Comics and Film. These genres are very popular with students, so they tend to be very engaged in the workshops, and the lessons learned there compliment lessons they’ve been taught in their art and language arts classes.

Storytelling in Comics and Film workshop
Our Storytelling in Comics and Film workshop is geared for students grades 3-8. This is a two part workshop. The first session is designed for a small group of around 10 students. During that session the students will work with the filmmaker to shoot a 3 minute short film. During the session students will learn filmmaking techniques. The second session generally takes place one week later and is designed for large groups of 50-400. There the filmmaker will present the finished student film, and also host an interactive presentation discussing filmmaking in the genres of Super Heroes and Science Fiction.
