About

Knoxville Children’s Theatre’s (KCT) mission is to inspire creativity and passion in children through the creation of live theatre. KCT’s vision is to be the premier educational theatre in east Tennessee. Founded in 2008, Knoxville Children’s Theatre (KCT), is an education-based 501(c)(3) non-profit training theatre and academy that provides hands on training in all aspects of live theatre. KCT produces professional quality plays and musicals by children and for children and families.

KCT believes that all members of our community benefit from quality theatre, and every child should have an opportunity to be exposed to educational theatre regardless of their socioeconomic status. Many children find their life’s passion and purpose in the arts. Study after study shows that if you want to boost literacy, you should get children to the theatre before the age of eight. KCT not only teaches theatre arts to children, but shares live theatre with thousands of children and their families from all over east Tennessee. Many children who attend KCT’s productions are seeing their first live performance.

KCT produces ten productions (three musicals) annually with more than 150 performances, including school day matinees. KCT’s Academy offers five terms of classes each year in every aspect of live performance. The Academy hosts over 30 summer camps for intensive weeklong training. Not every child loves the limelight, so KCT also offers children the opportunity to learn important behind-the-scenes skills such as set design, costume design, production lighting, sound design, stage management, and directing.

Program Overview

Knoxville Children’s Theatre produces 10 productions (over 150 performances) annually. KCT’s productions are based on children’s literature with at least one chosen from the reading lists of area high schools, and three of the productions are popular musicals geared for children and families. KCT performs school day matinees for groups during the school year.
