As a professional trumpeter for over 20 years, Antoine “Steelymon” Williamson has been traveling all over the southeast fusing: jazz, reggae, soul, funk, salsa, and calypso for audiences of all ages. For the past 20 years, Mr. Williamson has been a constant student of the American Art Form known as jazz and studied Music Education and Instrumental Performance at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Antoine is in such high demand; some have considered him the best jazz trumpeter in the whole state of Tennessee, and then some. He currently tours with groups, such as Soulfinger, Milele Roots, Ogya World Music Band, Bluesette and the Knoxville Jazz Orchestra just to name a few. When he is off the road, he enjoys teaching jazz lessons at the McCallie School and teaching private lessons from beginners to intermediate, locally and over Skype.
So, let jazz come into your school with Lungs of Steel Band to introduce your students to the infectious energy of swing. Mr. Williamson has adopted The Jazz for Young People Program from Wynton Marsalis, which consists of interesting facts from jazz history and traveling professional jazz ensemble presenting interactive performances for students throughout the state of Tennessee. They are making jazz fun for young people and teachers, alike. Join them as they play, teach, share, and celebrate the music and the spirit of jazz where they use kazoos and/or recorders for learning melody, harmony, rhythm, and jazz improv basics. The Lungs of Steel Band caps off the program performing tunes from the best selling jazz album in history, “Kind of Blue” and other Miles Davis classics! Since jazz is such an integral part of all genres, they like to play bonus reggae tunes outside of the jazz vein.
