State of the Arts 2018 Music Grant Launches

If you are a music educator who attended the general session at the Tennessee Music Education Association Annual Conference in April, you witnessed Governor Haslam, Commissioner McQueen, Sarah Trahern (CMA Foundation), Martina McBride, and TMEA Past-President Jonathan Vest make a historic announcement about Tennessee: State of the Arts. State of the Arts is a public-private partnership between the CMA Foundation and Tennessee State Government that seeks to leverage Tennessee’s rich history in the arts to focus on expanding students’ access to high-quality music and arts education.

We are excited to launch the State of the Arts 2018 Music Grant. The goal of this grant is to fund a range of strategies that will allow school districts to improve or develop music education programs. Types of strategies include professional development for music teachers; additional arts and music supplies, materials, and equipment to address equity challenges; or expansion of local arts educational outreach programs, etc. Multi-year grants will be awarded to eight districts in Tennessee through a competitive application/proposal. The application window opens Aug. 1 and submissions are due by September 28, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. CT.

In August and September, the department will host a series of information sessions open to educators and administrators as part of an Application Roadshow. Please visit the State of the Arts website for the schedule of sessions and to RSVP.
