2016 Poetry Out Loud
From Danielle Brown, Arts Education Special Projects Coordinator —
Poetry Out Loud (POL) is coming to an end for 2016. And what a great introductory year for me it has been. First, I’d like to give our TN state champion Alexia Buckner from Bolton High School in Arlington another huge and well deserved congratulations on winning state and representing TN for nationals in Washington, D.C. this week.
The festivities began with a special banquet Monday evening, honoring all of the student state champions. Tuesday was a full day of impressive recitations by each contestant. Alexia did a wonderful job. Thanks to the live streaming on the National Endowment for the Arts website, we were able to cheer her on both in D.C. and TN.
Congratulations to the other 52 students across the U.S. who represented their states in the national semifinals, and to those who will be competing in the national finals this evening.
We are all looking forward to next year’s competition. Be on the lookout for sign up reminders and be sure to register your school to participate. For more information, check out ourTN Poetry Out Loud web pages.
