First, I’d like to give our TN state champion Alexia Buckner from Bolton High School in Arlington another huge and well deserved congratulations on winning state and representing TN for nationals in Washington, D.C. this week.

The festivities began with a special banquet Monday evening, honoring all of the student state champions. Tuesday was a full day of impressive recitations by each contestant. Alexia did a wonderful job. Thanks to the live streaming on the National Endowment for the Arts website, we were able to cheer her on both in D.C. and TN. Screenshot 2016-05-04 11.35.35

Congratulations to the other 52 students across the U.S. who represented their states in the national semifinals, and to those who will be competing in the national finals this evening.
